TEHRAN - The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah
Ali Khamenei yesterday ruled out the likelihood of resumption of ties between Iran and its
arrogant and hegemonic enemy, the U.S. "The aim of the Americans in holding
negotiations with Iran is to find a way of exerting pressure on the government of the
Islamic Republic," the leader said.
"We want no dialogue with them because we do not
need them nor do we fear them. There can exist no friendly relations between Iran and a
regime (U.S. administration) which, under false pretense, shot down an Iranian passenger
plane and did not even apologize," he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei was speaking to thousands of
theological, college and high school students who had called on him on the eve of the 13th
of Aban (November 4th), marked nationally as student day and the national day for the
campaign against global arrogance.
Recalling the criminal role of the U.S. during the
former monarchial regime of Iran, the leader pointed out that the victory of the Iranian
people in 1979 was in fact the victory of an anti-American revolution because Iranians
held Washington responsible for the crimes committed by the Pahlavi regime.
The audience supported the leader's remarks by chanting
`Death to the U.S.', `Death to Israel', `We are all your soldiers and Are All Awaiting
Your Order, Khamenei'. The ayatollah continued by saying that when the Islamic Revolution
became victorious, the Iranian people had the right to take any decision they liked
against U.S. agents.
"But the reaction of the nation, revolution and the
noble Imam to the Americans was full of magnanimity and forgiveness," the Leader of
the Islamic Revolution said. "Instead of taking advantage of such generosity of
spirit displayed by the Iranian people, (the U.S.) adopted a hostile stance and turned its
embassy into a center for organizing dissidents and enemies of the Islamic Revolution and
system," the Ayatollah said. The U.S. refused to return billions of dollars worth of
the assets of the Iranian people plundered by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and his agents, while
freezing Iranian assets in the U.S., he noted.
The leader also pointed to the courageous action of the
students following the Imam's path in taking over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979.
"The aim of the brave nation of Iran in occupying the (U.S.) den of espionage was to
convey the message to the U.S. regime that the Iranian nation will not sit idle in the
face of
American plots and will resist at any cost such a
hegemonic and arrogant power". Referring to Washington's attempts to transfer its
domestic problems to Iran and other parts of the world including Europe, Ayatollah
Khamenei said that the animosity of the Iranian nation is directed only at the U.S.
administration and to the dismay of the American government, the Islamic Republic of Iran
enjoys logical and friendly relations with most other countries of the world, he said. In
fact, the leader noted, "it is the U.S. that is not on good terms with others and
treats them in an insulting and rude manner."
The leader remarked that Iran is a great country with a
rich culture and glorious history which are manifested in each and every Iranian and,
therefore, the American administration and others should not underestimate it. The free
nation of Iran has chosen Islam, the Islamic system of government and a life full of
struggle and free from big power intervention. This is why governments of the world are
keen to have ties with us he said. Ayatollah Khamenei stated, "As long as the Islamic
Republic treads the right path and its goals are divine, Islamic and Qor'anic, the
confrontation with leaders of the U.S.-led arrogant powers will continue."
Elsewhere in his speech, the Supreme Leader observed
that the Islamic Revolution is not confined to Iran's boundaries because its message is
universal. The victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 meant the opening of a
new chapter in history for Muslims living in other parts of the world, he said. When the
late Imam appeared and the banner of Islam was hoisted in Iran, Muslims worldwide felt
they, like their Iranian brethren, had become victorious, the leader remarked.
